Local-First Desktop Sports Video Analysis & Voice-Tagging Workspace
Coaches and sports analysts spent hours scrubbing match footage in general video editors to tag plays, record commentary, and export player reels. We built a local-first desktop application combining on-device speech recognition, custom mark coding, voice-over narration, and an embedded FFmpeg rendering engine.

— The Challenge
The Problem We Solved
Analyzing game footage in general video editors created heavy manual overhead and delayed post-match coaching feedback loops:
Scrubbing long match recordings manually to locate player actions required repetitive keyboard controls and constant timeline slicing.
Assembling per-player or per-action highlight reels demanded manual clip cutting and timeline rendering for every team member.
Uploading high-definition match recordings to cloud platforms created privacy concerns and required high internet bandwidth in film rooms.
Narrating tactical feedback over specific match moments required secondary audio editing tools rather than an integrated recording workflow.

— Our Solution
How We Solved It
We designed and built a local-first Electron desktop application providing a dedicated Setup, Code, and Render workspace loop:
Code mode supporting one-click moment tagging and hands-free voice commands powered by on-device Vosk speech recognition.
Voice-over narration engine enabling coaches to record tactical feedback per clip or record full Match Review commentary over video playback.
Render mode leveraging an embedded FFmpeg pipeline to filter, combine, and batch-export custom MP4 reels in 1080p, 720p, or 480p quality.
Local-first architecture using a loopback HTTP server and JSON game state files, processing video entirely offline without cloud uploads.

Results & Outcomes
- 100% Offline
- Local-First Processing
- Voice-to-Tag
- On-Device Vosk ASR
- FFmpeg Batch
- MP4 Reel Exporter
Accelerated match tagging by replacing manual timeline slicing with instant click and voice-to-tag controls.
Eliminated cloud upload requirements by processing video files, audio tracks, and JSON game state completely on the local machine.
Simplified coaching feedback delivery by allowing analysts to record narrations directly over match clips in one pass.
Automated per-player highlight reel creation through background FFmpeg batch rendering queues.
